This is a topic that will probably appeal to all but 3% of Chalene’s audience. In this episode Chalene talks about how to stop your cravings and the science behind cravings. Because if you understand how your body works you can then begin to know why these cravings happen. Once you understand that you can take back control. You can curb these cravings, control them and even stop them. Specifically the cravings we have for carbohydrates, processed foods, sugary foods all the foods that we know are not improving our health.

If we didn’t crave certain foods don’t you think we would have a much easier time controlling our weight? In a recent survey it was reported that 97% of women and 68% of men reported experiencing some sort of craving for a particular food at least once during the year. WHAT!!! ONCE IN 12 MONTHS!! REALLY!! If people where really being honest Chalene thinks it would be more like at least once a DAY!!

When it comes to weight loss, do calories matter? And who created the concept of a calorie? How accurate are calories counts in popular apps, food packaging and on that treadmill at the gym?

Most Health and fitness professionals would have us believe exercising more and eating fewer calories equals simple weight loss. And you know what? It often does! But ultimately over 95% of people gain that weight back and then some.

So is that a success?

What if I told you the pervasive practice of calorie counting is likely at the root of 40 plus years of diets failing us.

In this episode I help you understand how this flawed concept from the 1800’s led to one of the strongest held beliefs around wieght loss, ‘eat less, move more” is actually severaly flawed and likely resulting in your weight loss resistance.

You’ll understand that weight loss isn’t just about calories. If it were as simple as calories in vs calories out, we’d all be able to lose weight. If it was that simple, all the times that you ate less and exercised more would have worked and you would have been able to keep the weight off.

Almost every packaged food today features calorie counts in its label. Most of these counts are inaccurate because they are based on a system of averages that ignores the complexity and individuality of human digestion and metabolism.

Recent research reveals that how many calories we extract from food depends on which species we eat, the micronutrient content, if the food has been genetically modified, how we prepare the food, the heating process, which bacteria are in our gut and how much energy we use to digest different foods.


Now, I don't want to make the mistake that people made in the past of over-simplifying this process. I mean, calories do matter to some extent, but current available science seems to indicate our hormones (and the balance of them) have a far greater impact on our weight and fat storage.


So, how do you develop a way of eating, an approach to weight loss or weight maintenance that works, that doesn’t make you crazy?

By learning how your body responds to certain foods, reducing inflammation, and formulating the ideal macronutrient and micronutrient ration to balance your hormones, by selecting foods that have a positive,  impact on your gut and brain health.

This episode in the De-clutter Project is all about habits. Habits can be related to EVERYTHING in your home. When done eating, rinse your dishes and put them in the dishwasher right away. When you are changing outfits, or undressing, hang clothes up, put them back into their drawer, or the hamper don't let them sit on the floor. Ever. When you're done doing your hair, put the hair products back in their place.

So lets talk habits. Habits are a way of making our life easier. When something is a habit you just do it. You don’t have to over think it you just do it mindlessly. Habits give you rewards. In this episode Chalene gives you the steps to create those habits.
