When you study or surround yourself by those who are more skilled, better rehearsed, more devoted or who have developed the habits to make things happen, you begin to see that possibility as “normal” for yourself.

Comfort is comfortable but it can also be dangerous.

There is really no such thing as a one sided relationship we all play some kind of roll in all relationships. Be careful that you are not just placing importance on the things you do in the friendship.

The great part about unbalanced friendships is that they can be dissolved very easily. But Make sure that’s what you want. Oftentimes people walk away from a friendship not because they truly want to end it, but rather because they are trying to create a reaction or perhaps get the other person to stand up and take notice.

“I think you two are co-dependent” once said a wise therapist. Bret and I stared back at her in disbelief and denial.

This episode of the Chalene Show includes an unscripted and honest conversation between my husband Bret and I, recapping a recent weekend apart. This is significant because not too many years ago, I wouldn’t have dreamed of suggesting we spend the weekend apart. Today, we are in a better place, our relationship is so much healthier.

Healthy relationships take work! I always feel a little weird when I post something in social media and see that well meaning fans have replied with comments like,  #RelationshipGoals or “I wish my relationship was like yours”.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to know that people see the relationship that I have with my husband and business partner Bret as inspirational, but I also feel a sense of obligation.

I feel a sense of responsibility to share the true work and progress that has gone into this relationship. While it’s helpful to have relationship role models, it’s unhealthy to use someone else relationship as a measure of the success or potential that your relationship has.

If you’re not getting along, if you struggle to communicate, argue, or just feel disconnected that doesn’t mean your relationship is doomed, it might simply mean you need to seek outside help.

In this episode, Bret and I talk about how early behaviors in our relationship resulted in some pretty serious codependency patterns.  

Codependency can take on many forms. When the term was first used to describe our relationship, I was very defensive. I took to the internet to read up on what it meant to be in an unhealthy relationship. It was easy to find definitions that didn’t seem to fit. But there are degrees of codependency and before long I realized that being defensive about the label, wasn’t going to help us.

Growth is something we should all seek. Growth makes us better. When we are better as individuals or better as a couple, we make the world a better place. We experience greater happiness and fulfillment when we work on being better humans. And yes, growth can be uncomfortable, even painful at times, but it always results in improvement.

Embrace growth. Growth is what courageous people do. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. You can’t possibly be an expert at everything. Allow a trained individual to help you navigate this process. While friends and family are important sources of support, they are not trained to help you navigate the experiences of your past and help you to process these things.

You and your partner need time together and time apart. You need to be your own autonomous person with your own interests, friends and pursuits. While It’s incredibly beneficial to share these things as a couple, it’s equally important to have things that are just for you. Your happiness and or emotional state should never be defined or determined by the mood, actions, affection or behaviors of your partner.

A healthy individual doesn’t need the approval, assistance, support or love of someone else to feel whole. While it’s human nature to desire these things, they should never define you or make you feel differently about who you are or your significance.

Codependence can take on many forms and can reveal itself in varying degrees, the worst of which can lead to dangerous and destructive patterns.

Instead of dismissing the notion, consider speaking to a trained professional and seek the counsel of those trained to help you be a better you!!

If you have noticed the Ketogenic Diet is all the rage everywhere you look its Ketogenic this Ketogenic that!! Last you it was the Paleo Diet and before that was The Low fat Low carb diet.

Our ancestors phased their diets because the nutritional resources that were available were based on seasons. Which means our bodies biologically have been designed to adapt and to expect phasing.

Diet phasing helps to avoid hitting a plateau. We have had this same theory for years when it came to exercise. We know that if we do the exact same type of exercise year after year our bodies will adapt and hit a plateau and stop seeing results.

So if this were true for exercise why would it not be the same when it came to our body and nutrition?

There is no one diet trend that we all should be following, there is no hard and fast rules that we should all be following when it comes to nutrition. We all are uniquely different and need to find what works best for our body.

We are fooling ourselves if we think that the same rules apply to everyone. We are all different, different ages, genders, ethnicity, hormones, stress levels and exercise history.

Chalene tells you how she had it all wrong for the past 25 years when it came to diet and fitness. She explains how when she was at her leanest she was also very unhealthy and aging her body from the inside out.

In this episode Chalene share with you her journey she has been to discover what the meaning of health is to her.

In Part 2 Chalene continues her discussion about her journey to find the true meaning of health.

In this episode she shares with you how she uses the high fat low carb meal planning. Chalene gives you her thoughts on exogenous ketones, who they are right for who they are wrong for. She also tells you all about her amazing experience she had doing a 4 1/2 day fast during a very intense live event she was hosting.

After leaving a sporting event and the things she witnessed, made her realize that for so many people all the fear of failure and self-doubt most likely came from our parents.

Chalene shares with you what she witnessed at a high school track meet and the awful way a parent reacted to their own child.

Chalene gives her option and observations of what parents can do to give their children confidence and set them up to excel as adults.

Through Chalene’s own coaching programs of adult business owners who were stuck and not moving forward in their businesses, she found that so many of them still held the false belief that they were failures or not worthy of success. And with so many people it was discovered that those false beliefs could be traced back to the way they were raised or the things that were said to them by their parents.

Chalene gives you some tips on how and what to say as parents to help raise strong, confidant and success adults.

If you are an adult raised with critical parents this episode may give you some insight on why you may at times feel like a failure or not worthy of success.
